You can choose from 10 projects in Africa that focus on community development.
1. The Best of Tanzania, including climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. 6 weeks, $5275. Push yourself to the limits on this whirlwind 6 week Tanzania adventure. You will spend the first few weeks truly immersing yourself in Tanzanian culture as you work with young children in Moshi. Next you are off on a 6 day climb up world famous Mt. Kilimanjaro using the scenic Marangu route. And that’s not all! You will also spend the night at a real Masai village and visit the fabulous Lake Manyara National Park and N'Gorongoro Crater to see tons of wildlife including cheetahs, leopards, lions and more. Finish the trip with a well earned stay on the beautiful island of Zanzibar, famous for its tropical beaches, world class snorkelling and chilled out atmosphere.
2. Southern Africa Overland Experience. 26 days, $3295. Choosing which country to visit in Southern Africa is no easy task; do you go for the traditional cultures of Zambia, Botswana’s big game or Namibia’s river safaris? At last help is at hand on a tour which brings you everything. During the fun-packed 26 days you will enjoy camping in the bush, volunteering on local building and teaching projects, taking a game drive, white water rafting and visiting Victoria Falls. All of this makes the tour something worth writing home about.
3. Kruger to Mozambique. 4 weeks, $3460. Start in the Kruger National Park where you’ll spend nights out under the stars before enjoying game drives and guided bush walks. Before you’ve had a chance to catch your breath it’s off to Swaziland where you’ll put a smile on the face of orphans and vulnerable children using a little tender loving care. We save the best until last though, and round off the trip with a visit to Mozambique, the largely undiscovered gem on the south-east coast. Ride the waves that break off the coral reef and lap the tropical beaches before a quick ocean safari, a spot of horse riding and a beach party bring the curtain down on your trip.
4. Wildlife safari and community work in Tanzania. 2 weeks, $2195. Based in the town of Moshi, at the base of Mt Kilimanjaro, for the first week of this trip you will be caring and helping to educate the children of the local community. You can practice your teaching skills and any sports skills that you may have with these very eager to learn youngsters! The smiles on their faces and their enthusiasm will make all your hard work well worth it! After being run ragged by the kids you can then head off for an amazing week including a night with the Masai, walking in the foothills of Mt Kilimanjaro and a safari in the world famous N'gorongoro crater.
5. Wildlife, beaches, and community work in Tanzania. 4 weeks, $3295. On this 4 week trip you will spend your first two weeks volunteering in Moshi with young children. As a reward for all your efforts you will spend the next two weeks surrounded by natural beauty and incredible wildlife. You will go on safari, visit national parks, stunning beaches and even stay at a real Masai village (we hope you won’t mind spending the night in a mud hut). Prepare to see lions, cheetahs, elephants, hippos and more as you travel across the African plains, the cool breeze providing much needed relief from the mid-day sun. Once you have had your fill on the mainland, you will hop on a ferry to get an intimate look at Zanzibar, the magical island known for its white sandy beaches, unique history and fantastically mellow vibe.
6. Surfing experience with disadvantaged children in South Africa. 2-8 weeks. First 2 weeks, $1535; subsequent weeks $400. Based at the beautiful white sandy beach of Muizenburg near Cape Town you'll spend your time learning how to surf and then teaching some fantastic children how to do their thing in the surf! Watch as they learn how to stand on the board and smile as they try to balance! Experience their energy and enthusiam first hand and watch their (and your!) amazement as they take to the waters for the first time. You will be working with children from disadvantaged backgounds - bringing to them some happiness and hopefully a passion for a great sport. You will also have plenty of free time to explore the stunning Cape Town area; you could dive with sharks, hike through the stunning Cape region, sky dive…the outdoor adventure options are endless!
7. Community education with adults in Tanzania. 2-12 weeks. First 2 weeks, $1645; subsequent weeks $275. Teaching adults new skills is a very effective means of improving the lives of present and future generations; adults pass on newly acquired skills to their children, so educating one adult can actually benefit several people. With so much to do in your time here it’s no wonder the project will need you to be a counselor, English teacher and sports coach, as well as passing on any business skills you have.
8. Ultimate South Africa. 4 weeks, $3295. On this marvelous tour of South Africa and Swaziland you will travel from Johannesburg to Cape Town via Swaziland! Along the way you will play with lion cubs near Johannesburg, see Swazi culture and crafts in the Ezulwini valley of Swaziland, take a boat cruise through the St Lucia estuary, spend some time experiencing Zulu culture and the fantastic beaches of Durban, and head towards Cape Town via the famed "Garden Route", a passage lined with beautiful coastal villages set against the backdrop of ancient forests and rugged mountains. Along the "Garden Route " you will pause to take in the majestic scenery on a canopy tour through the Tsitsikama forest. Your tour comes to its conclusion in the vibrant city of Cape Town. You will spend your final week working with disadvantaged children in a nursery school near Cape Town. This action packed four week adventure is perfect for anyone looking to make some great new friends and see the best of what Southern Africa has to offer! You won't believe how much you can see and do in just four short weeks!
9. Kruger to Cape Town. 2 weeks, $2195. On this spectacular trip you will have the chance to view amazing wildlife at Kruger National Park. You will go on game drives, a nature walk and a river cruise in order to maximize your viewing opportunities. You will also spent time learning about the vast variety of plant and animal species in the area. From the African bush you will go straight to Cape Town where you will have the chance to see more creatures at play: young, boisterous children. You will make new friends while making a difference by volunteering at a nursery school for disadvantaged children near Cape Town.
10. Gorillas and community work in East Africa. 2 weeks, $2525. If you are patient, have a great imagination and love working with children then you can have a great time helping Mombasa`s vulnerable children. Most of these children have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS so by giving your support you will help to get their lives back on track. Then after the hard work is done travel over to Uganda in search of Mountain Gorillas in their natural habitat deep in the forest. You'll be trekking through the jungle keeping an eye out for these amazing creatures – a once in a lifetime adventure!
