Travel Insurance

Distinctive Destinations offers several travel insurance products (our CA Dept. of Insurance license number is: 0E89161). Be sure to discuss with us which one best meets your needs.  A basic difference is the amount of medical coverage/medical evacuation/repatriation coverage included. "Standard" travel insurance reimburses your prepaid costs if you need to cancel for a covered reason--primarily a medical reason.

And, if you only want the medical coverage/medical evacuation provisions, and you don't care about trip cancellation/interruption, we can help you find an inexpensive way to get this coverage for your trip. We can also help you with insurance to cover your non-refundable airline ticket, or annual policies for those of you who are frequent travelers (note: annual policies do not include trip cancellation/trip interruption coverage).

1. Travel Insured. To view all the policy definitions and details, go to this site. Use the agency code of 47447. They have a variety of products with different levels of coverage. They also have optional add-ons if you want to be able to "cancel for any reason", "cancel for a work reason", have pre-paid sports activities be insured, etc.

2.  Travelex Insurance, including Travel Plus and Travelite. Click this link to go to the Travelex site. You can also purchase foreign currency and travelers checks; use location # 050267.

3. TravelSafe Insurance, including the option of canceling for any reason and getting either 75% or 90% refunded. Click on this link to go to the TravelSafe site. Select "vacation insurance" if you want either the standard coverage or the 75% reimbursement where you can cancel for any reason; select "premier" if you want the 90% reimbursement where you can cancel for any reason.

4. We can also offer you a way to do a comparison of many coverages. We can link you to a website where you can select the type of insurance you want, the level of coverage you want, and then purchase the policy that best meets your needs. Just click here. You may not need as much medical coverage as the standard policies provide, or you may not want the baggage/baggage delay coverage. You may find insurance here that has lower coverages than Travel Insured,  TravelSafe or Travelex and that is more affordable for you.

Here is a discussion by Arthur Frommer on the need for travel insurance.

As you are thinking about the need for insurance, also keep in mind that the largest hazard to travelers are traffic accidents. Medical and medical evacuation insurance are important for these reasons too. Read this article  for background.
