WHO ARE WE?
Distinctive Destinations is a full-service travel agency owned by Kathy and Jim Moroney. Personnel at Distinctive Destinations have been selling travel to the public since 1990. We are based in Sacramento, California. We are well-traveled and have been to all seven continents.
We are registered with the California Attorney General and have a California Sellers of Travel number. We participate in the California Travel Restitution Fund. We have all the appropriate business licenses and insurance.
We focus on international leisure travel, and are specialists in Africa, East Africa (Kenya and Tanzania), South Africa, the People's Republic of China, Ireland, and many other destinations. We also sell adventure travel and small ship cruises, as well as volunteer travel.
We are members of numerous professional organizations and on the board of several. Kathy is the President of the Sacramento Valley chapter of the Association for the Promotion of Tourism to Africa (APTA).
But more than this accumulation of facts, "who are we" is best answered by our enthusiasm for travel. Travel is our passion, not just our profession. The joy of anticipation for any trip, and learning about the destination, are a large part of the experience. But actually getting on that plane, knowing that you are free of your day-to-day responsibilities and are open to whatever experiences come your way--this is when the trip really starts. Your disappointment when the trip ends and your anxiousness to select the next trip--this is the passion we have for traveling and hope to share with you.
WHO ARE OUR CLIENTS?
Maybe we can start to answer this by saying who our clients are not. We may not be the appropriate travel agency if you want:
- a simple domestic airline ticket, domestic rental car, or domestic hotel room that you can buy on the internet,
- the cheapest product in the market,
- to only obtain information and brochures, or
- to pick our brains, get suggestions, and yet book elsewhere.
Our clients come in all shapes, sizes, ages, income levels, and experience levels. Our clients seek us out because we can create an experience that you won't get elsewhere. We want a relationship with our clients where we are partners with you in helping develop your leisure-time journeys.
We understand that you may not have any previous experience with us and won't want to commit to select us as your travel agent right off the bat. We are glad to consult with you free of charge.

To verify our agency's credentials and experience, here are some places you can look:
- California Seller of Travel (CST). Our number is CST # 2073714-40. You can find us at: http://ag.ca.gov/travel/ The CA Seller of Travel law requires agencies to keep your payments in a trust account, requires agencies to pay into a restitution fund, and sets standards for financial recordkeeping.
- The South Africa Tourist Board lists its specialists on its website. Go to this site and click on "find an expert": www.southafrica.net/sat/content/en/us/contact-general-enquiry (At the www.southafrica.net site you select “contact” and then “general inquiry”. As part of “Got a question?” on the right hand side, you select to find experts in the United States – and you can then locate me on the tourist board listing.)
- The Kenya Tourist Board lists its specialists at their Kenya agent website: http://www.kenyaagent.com/home.cfm Scroll to the right, and select "click here for a Kenya specialist." Put in our zip code of 95864 and you'll find our agency. We are a Master KATS agent.
- The Tanzania Tourist Board has awarded us as one of their very first travel agency specialists in the United States.
